ANTHRAX's CHARLIE BENANTE: 'Heavy Metal Is Dead In The U.S.'
February 27, 2004ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante recently spoke to Australia's Heavy Metal Heaven about the group's upcoming live CD/DVD and their Australian tour, which is scheduled to take place in April. Asked what he thinks about the direction heavy metal music has taken over the last few years, Charlie said, "Heavy metal is dead in the U.S. It's been replaced by RAP and HOT TOPIC metal. I believe it still lives in the heart of some but….it's been killed by corporate America. We have no ROCK STARS anymore — we have the pop icons that have no talent and a big marketing budget. I think in Europe it is alive and well and I don't know what to expect in Australia. We'll just do what we do and hope people dig it and come & have a great time."
